Coronavirus: MUNI cancels all classes in preventative measure

Rector of Masaryk University Martin Bareš announced rector´s leave with immediate effect for 14 days.

Rector responded to the current situation regarding the spread of coronavirus infection. In the next 14 days, students will not take part in any contact lessons (from 10 to 24 March), teachers can replace it by distance form of teaching where it is possible.

Also, all events organized by the University are canceled, regardless of the expected numbers of persons. Services in dormitories, canteens and libraries will be adapted to the situation so that students do not have to worry about contagion. The Rector recommended that the Deans adjust the work flow at the faculties so that, where possible, the employees remain in the home office, while others will go to work.

“As a rector of Masaryk University and at the same time a doctor, for whom health always comes first, I decided to grant the rector's leave at a time when it is absolutely necessary in face of the current situation. No disease has been reported in the South Moravian Region to date. Yet, from the outset of this difficult situation, the University has adopted measures that allow health protection while maintaining its function. We will do everything from the university level so that students can properly complete the semester if the situation allows. Various solutions are being considered, including extending the semester to summer holidays, ”said rector Bareš.
