Fifteen members of the Board of Trustees of Masaryk University elected their chairwoman and two deputy chairmen: Dagmar Lastovecká, Richard Svoboda and Jiří Hamza respectively. The main role of the board is to oversee the administration of assets of the university. The same management has led the board during the last two years.
Dagmar Lastovecká is a former Mayor of the City of Brno (1994–1998) and a Member of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic (1998–2003), including the Chairwoman of the Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs. In 2003 she was appointed Constitutional Court Justice; her term ended in 2013.
Richard Svoboda is a former Mayor of the City of Brno (2004–2006) and a Member of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic (2006–2012). Jiří Hamza is the president of the Czech Biathlon Union and vice-president of the International Biathlon Union. All three members are Masaryk University alumni.
Masaryk University Rector Martin Bareš congratulated the new management on their appointment, noting that even though the management has remained unchanged, the Board of Trustees as such has changed with the appointment of a new member, director of the Brno Philharmonic Marie Kučerová.
Members of boards of trustees of public universities are appointed by the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports after discussion with the rector of the university.
