In previous years, Campus Day – a welcome opportunity to relax and play in the final stretch of the semester – was mainly organised on behalf of the faculties based in the Bohunice campus and the Rector’s Office. However, the participation of the MU Faculty of Economics and Administration last year hinted at the ambition to make the event more inclusive, as expressed in its new name. MUNI Day will thus take place on Thursday 11 May 2023 and employees and students of the entire Masaryk University are welcome.
“I am glad that the other faculties have unanimously agreed to join the event. This will make this year’s edition new and exciting both for the organisers and for the participants. I am convinced that MUNI Day will become a tradition for the entire university, an annual opportunity to hold an informal sports and social gathering of staff and students, regardless of which faculty or department they work or study at,” said MUNI Day coordinator Martin Komenda.
Apart from many more participating faculties, the basic idea behind the event remains the same. The first part of the day will comprise sporting activities, while the afternoon part will be all about entertainment and music. Of course, there will also be refreshments. Sporting activities are open to both individual competitors and teams. As last year, people from the Faculty of Sports Studies are preparing yoga or pilates lessons and self-defence courses. If you have a team, you can join a volleyball tournament or compete in badminton.
In the afternoon, the sporting programme will culminate in the traditional floorball match between the campus faculties and the Rector’s Office. Last year’s competition was dominated by the Rectorate’s team, which crushed the faculties 6:2, so they are out for a little payback. According to Komenda, who is also the coach of the Rectorate’s team (where he relies on experience from the top national floorball competition), this year’s game will probably offer a more balanced spectacle. “Our core team is as good as ever, but when you watch the other teams train, you can see how far they’ve come. We will face strong opponents this time. I would like to invite everyone to watch the game and cheer for their team. The motivation on both sides is huge and just the chance to see ordinary coworkers not giving an inch to each other on the rink is priceless.”
Preparations for MUNI Day are well underway; admission to the event is free upon registration. Registration (including for sporting activities) will open on Monday 4 April. For more info, visit muniday.muni.cz.
