MU and JAMU jointly commemorate one year since tragic shooting

The tragic events that occurred in Prague on 21 December 2023 on the grounds of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University were jointly commemorated by Masaryk University and the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts (JAMU).

The chamber meeting of representatives of both universities took place in the afternoon on the day of the sad anniversary in front of the building of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University.

Compositions by Antonín Dvořák were played by students of the Department of Wind Instruments of the Faculty of Music of the JAMU.

“We are commemorating the loss of human life and the suffering of those who were affected by the event, as well as the shock to our entire public,” said Jiří Hanuš, MU Vice-Rector for Academic and Cultural Affairs. The commemorative act also included a musical performance by students of the Department of Wind Instruments of the Faculty of Music of JAMU under the direction of Jindřich Petráš, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Music of JAMU. Dvořák's New World and the composer's funeral fanfare were played at the end.
