After July’s Mendel Genetics Conference, one of the highlights of this year’s celebrations of the father of genetics’ two-hundredth birthday, Masaryk University is now preparing to welcome another group of leading international scientists and researchers to Brno.

Simona Koryčánková will become the new Dean of the Faculty of Education in the 2023-2027 period after her official appointment by the Rector of Masaryk University. She will succeed Dean Jiří Němec in February next year.

The candidates for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Education presented their programmes in a public debate today. The election by the faculty’s Academic Senate will take place on 27 September.

Masaryk University has officially opened the academic year 2022/2023. At the ceremony, Rector Martin Bareš spoke about the university’s achievements, recalling the crises of the last two years, and presented awards to outstanding teachers.

As part of inter-faculty cooperation within Masaryk University, four faculties and one research facility have signed an agreement on common standards for doctoral studies.

On Wednesday evening, MU representatives were awarded a prize by the European Association for International Education (EAIE). The ceremony was full of praise for the University’s activities focused on international students during the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

Masaryk University, like other Czech universities and society as a whole, is facing skyrocketing energy prices. However, there are no plans for transitioning to online learning, and the new academic year will begin on 12 September with standard in-person classes.

Almost five hundred students from Ukraine who were admitted to ten MU faculties through a special admission procedure will start the new academic year. In addition, the University will continue to help Ukraine through a number of other initiatives.

Masaryk University is aware of its important societal role and tries to lead by example to ensure responsible use of energy and water and the handling of waste. Responsible behaviour in this area has long been one of MU’s priorities.

On Friday, 30 September, visitors will be able to attend science lectures, experiments, workshops, exhibitions and games.
