Presenting the appointment decrees to the new associate professors was Rector Martin Bareš. “I am honoured to meet the new associate professors here. I was pleased to find out about the broad spectrum of the fields they represent and, by extension, about the degree of autonomy of this university in being able to sustain that many fields. Now, my recommendation would emphasise the need for the stepping out of one’s comfort zone of lecture halls and labs to face the public. We want to show people that the university is a place for extraordinary people capable of influencing society and improving people’s lives, and that the so-called third role of universities is not just an empty phrase,” Bareš said in his opening statement.
