Disturbing information appearing in the media regarding inappropriate conduct by teachers at the Department of Physical Education and Health Education of the Faculty of Education has prompted a strong response on the part of Masaryk University management. 

MU Rector Martin Bareš issues a statement on information related to the situation at the MU Faculty of Education.

On 28 January 2023, exactly 104 years will have passed since the founding of Masaryk University. Today, MU is one of the most important educational and scientific institutions in the Czech Republic.  

This year’s applicants for studies at Masaryk University will encounter a few changes in the admission procedure. The “Learning Potential Test” (LPT, abbreviated TSP in Czech) required by most faculties will still be taken by applicants in person, but they will write it using tablet computers.

Three scientists and one student of Masaryk University were among this year’s laureates of the Brno City Award for 2022. These awards are bestowed upon notable personalities whose activities are primarily taking place in Brno.

This week, Masaryk University celebrates the 104th anniversary of its foundation. On 24 January, it renamed a university hall at the Faculty of Law to bear the name of Karel Engliš, the first MU rector and one of the most respected personalities of his time.

Masaryk University’s PhD students can look forward to significant improvement of their financial situation. The amount of support granted to full-time doctoral study programme students will be increased by 25%, from CZK 12,000 to CZK 15,000 per month, according to the most recent measure issued by Rector Martin Bareš.

At its 267th meeting, the Academic Senate of Masaryk University announced the date of the election of the new MU Rector. The secret ballot to elect the winning candidate will take place on Monday 3 April.

Masaryk University has performed a comprehensive internal evaluation of its research and PhD programmes in order to ensure the highest quality of studies. The evaluation was based on an informed peer review system, which will also become a pillar of MU self-evaluation in the future.

The Czech university team has arrived in Lake Placid for the Winter World University Games. A total of 93 Czech student-athletes will compete in 12 winter sports from 12 to 22 January. Nine of them study at Masaryk University.

Brno has recently commemorated the anniversary of the death of Gregor Johann Mendel by wrath laying ceremony at Brno’s central cemetery. Masaryk University Rector Martin Bareš also signed a memorandum of cooperation on the foundation of “Gregor Mendel Centre for Sustainability”.
