The Rector of Masaryk University Martin Bareš wishes a peaceful Christmas.

A few days before Christmas, the first snow of the year covered the buildings of Masaryk University. Look at how the faculties and other university departments look under the snowcap.

The design of MU’s New Year’s greeting for 2023 was the result of a student contest. The contest was supervised by Jana Nedomová from the Faculty of Education’s Department of Art. Students submitted 70 designs. The jury selected Marie Kudláčková’s design which has been modified into its final form.

The MU Career Centre received special recognition for providing timely and comprehensive counselling services to student refugees from Ukraine. The award was presented at a ceremony in Prague to representatives of the Career Centre, headed by Ukrainian counsellor Sofia Berezka.

From Wednesday 19 October, the famous Russian historian Andrey Borisovich Zubov teaches a six-week course at Masaryk University titled Reasons for the Russian catastrophe of the 20th century and possibilities to overcome it. Over 100 MU students have signed up for the limited special series of lectures and nearly 4,000 others have already watched the lectures online.

Czech President Miloš Zeman has signed appointment decrees for new professors nominated by the scientific and artistic councils of Czech universities. Seven of them are connected with Masaryk University.

After spending a week at MU on an Erasmus+ exchange programme, British university worker Sean Barton fell in love with Brno – a city he thinks is a hidden gem in the heart of central Europe.

Twenty years after opening the Faculty of Arts central library won an award from the Czech Chamber of Architects for qualitative contribution to society. The award makes it one of ten best buildings in the Czech Republic in terms of quality.

Last Sunday the 2022 FIFA World Cup started, as did a special series of the famous Czech Television quiz show AZ-kvíz. The programme will pair Masaryk University students against celebrities and Czech Television personalities. Part of the winnings from the famous “ATM” will be donated to the volunteer centre MUNI HELPS.
